i hear that if you stay quiet for a while it gets awkward but no it doesnt. for me it gets weird that only makes him want to edge closer to me . just another guy that wants to get in my pants . do i let him have it or do i wait for sterling . the room gets cold in the middle of summer waiting for sterling makes me want to be with him but i cant between zac and my friends . i cant do this to him .
MONTHS EARLIER
i just moved to a new town . what a drag . this place looks so dead . when we were going through town hardly no one was out there . i hate leaving zac behind but i had to move on with or without him . he was slowing me down . i hope hes happy with that girl hes with shes human . the most fragile element in the universe . i hope he knows i love him .
ughh . school starts soon . i wont really need it though ; i could be skipped if i wanted to but i will just go through the motions this time . i guess to get through it quick ill join the 11 th grade . even if im 150 years older than all of them . itll be fun to play around with these kids in this dead end town .
NEXT DAY ; FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL .
oh no this town is better than i thought . cute guys ; great hang outs ; and i get service everywhere . i love this town . i only wish that zac could see this . oh no i see him . the guy . the guy that drove me here . his scent gets stronger every time i get closer . his smell makes me melt inside more every second . i will explode if i stay in this position ." hey you new kid " he yells from the other side of the hall way "come here .!" i run around and start walking away. " yeah you .!" i stop in my tracks take a deep breath and close my eyes hoping he wasnt calling me . " hey i was talking to you " the voice was closer . i turn around and give him the what-do-you-want look and he flashes the WOW look as he sees my face . " um um i um saw you staring at me from across the hall " he stutters trying to take in the moment . " yeah and you have a problem with that .? " i step back trying not to get too close to his body . " whats your name .?" "whos asking .?" " sterling is asking ." " im sorry sterling but you and me . we can not be friends " i said with reassurance in my voice but it seems like he didnt pick it up. " have you ever looked in the mirror , you have beautiful eyes . " "thank you ." even if im a vampire i can still become flattered once in a blue moon . " so where you going now .?" "home. why.?" " cause i wanna walk you home ." " oh im sorry you cant my brother doesnt like it when guys bring me home . then he starts to get suspicious and ask me questions ." i had the greatest excuse in the book . i didnt have a older brother i only had him and he would die for me if he had the chance to . " ill drop you off down the block from your house ." " i dont know i dont live in town . but you can walk me to the part before town ends" "okay ."
so we walked out of the blue school doors and headed our way to my house . we talked about his family and my fake one . our favorite video games and debated on the best football team in the league . it was nice having him walk me home . i think i might let him again . we get to the mark where were supposed to part and we stop . " hey can i get your number or is your brother and dad going to kill you if i call .? " " i dont think thatll happen but ill be better if i get your number ." " okay ." he gets a pen from the side pocket of his book bag and motions for me to pull up my sleeve so he can write it on my arm . i cant because i still have the marks hayden gave me 150 years ago on both arms. " i cant ." so he got out paper made me turn around so he could press on my back then when he was finished i turned around took the paper and walked two steps . " so .? leave .!" " im waiting for you ." " ill be fine trust me. go now .!" he starts to walk away and as soon he walks away i run and get home in 5 seconds flat .
the door slams and hayden is standing at the top of the stairs . " hey babe how was school .?" "please lets not go through this . if you really wanted to know you would be there also. " " i get it i get it ." i walk into the living room stopping in the middle of the floor space to text sterling . hayden appears behind me and starts kissing me on my neck and i just stand there . " what did you get to eat .? im starving ." " i told you to eat breakfast ." " yeah yeah yeah." this went on for about 3 more weeks . and each day i got closer to sterling the more he didnt know of me and i like to keep it that way .
THANKSGIVING BREAK
" so what are you going to do - - - " sterling was cut off by my cell phone . RING RING
"yeah . . . . ill be there . " i hang up the phone . "who was that .?" " just a friend . i have to tell you something ." " okay . what is it .?" " i have to leave ." okay ill see you tomorrow ." " no i mean leave town ." " okay are you coming back .?" " im not sure ." by this time in our relationship he knows hayden as my big brother but never ever sees my dad he will never know my secret . "is hayden leaving too .?" " no i dont think so if he wants to you should stay with him until or if i get back . " " okay ill be there later ."
LATER .
" the rules are dont eat him and dont do anything crazy i got you 20 bottles of food in the fridge dont go crazy please i wont want anyone to get hurt . bye ." and i leave the house no note and no kisses goodbye . to have a chance to never come back ever again you would think i would want to say goodbye to the ones i love but if i dont come back what will happen . " hes already here just be nice and dont make trouble " i say going in my direction knowing that he can hear me and i can hear him . " bye ."
THE NEXT DAY .
" umm he locked himself in that cellar thing and hes not coming out . he wont even eat . hes starting to look sick . i hope hes okay . " i start to read the text that sterling sent me and i have to get home . i reach my destination and cant think about this right now but i seem s to distract me from my day .
" yeah you called zac .?" i said approaching zac looking confused . "yeah i need you to go to vanessas house for me and see if shes okay . " " why cant you go or send lucas for you .?" " cause they all left town and im the only one left and also i already told her i was leaving . " " well i cant right now but i can check on her for a second then have to go back home ." " thats even better . " so i left and rushed over to vanessa . i scared her and she jumped . i talked so fast she didnt understand anything . after i left i went back to zac .
" you know i still love you .?" " well yeah and i still love you but you love that human vanessa more than me so theres no point in staying - - - ." i was cut off by my cell phone RING RING " we need you down here now .! " i hear from the other line " hes dying and he told me not to call you ." i didnt say a word just sat there in silence and hung up . zac knew that something was wrong he could see it all over my face . he put both of his hands oh my jaw line and pulls me close to his face . i cant resist him or fight back anymore i let him have it . forgetting about hayden and sterling and knowing i wont make it in time to save him i stayed with zac and never looked back .
